Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I-related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with beta-2 microglobulin. It is found on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, interdigitating cells, certain T-cell leukemias, and various tissues.
CD1a mediates lipid and glycolipid antigen presentation to T cells and forms heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin.
The CD1 family consists of five genes (CD1a, b, c, d, e) located on chromosome 1, differing in localization and ligand specificity. CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and early endocytic vesicles.
Alternative splicing variants exist but their biological significance remains unclear.
