Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). They are involved in pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport. While all hnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The encoded protein has three quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNA and functions as part of an N-acetylglucosamine-specific receptor involved in recycling immature GlcNAc-bearing thyroglobulin molecules. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
