A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with rat, mouse, human, and bovine based on 100% sequence homology. Cross-reactivity with HDAC8 from other sources has not been determined.
Target Information
In the intact cell, DNA closely associates with histones and other nuclear proteins to form chromatin. Chromatin remodeling, a critical component of transcriptional regulation, is influenced by the acetylation and deacetylation of nucleosomal histones. Histone acetylation increases DNA accessibility to transcription factors, while deacetylation is associated with transcriptional silencing.
Several mammalian proteins act as nuclear histone acetylases, including GCN5, PCAF, p300/CBP, HAT1, and TFIID subunit TAF II p250. Mammalian HDAC8, isolated from human kidney, is a histone deacetylase with distinct tissue distribution and nuclear localization, playing roles in tissue development and cancer etiology.
