A BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with human, mouse, and primate based on 100% sequence homology. Cross-reactivity with HDAC5 from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

Histones play a critical role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental events. Histone acetylation/deacetylation alters chromosome structure and affects transcription factor access to DNA.
The HDAC5 protein belongs to the class II histone deacetylase family and represses transcription when tethered to a promoter. It coimmunoprecipitates with HDAC3 and interacts with MEF2 proteins, resulting in repression of MEF2-dependent genes.
This gene is associated with colon cancer, and two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
