Target Information

CACNA1D (also known as PASNA, SANDD, or Cav1.3) encodes the alpha-1D subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels. These channels mediate calcium ion entry into excitable cells and participate in various calcium-dependent processes such as muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, and gene expression.
Calcium channels are multisubunit complexes composed of alpha-1, beta, alpha-2/delta, and gamma subunits. The alpha-1 subunit forms the pore and determines channel activity, while auxiliary subunits modulate function. Multiple alpha-1 isoforms (A, B, C, D, E, S) contribute to distinct channel properties. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
