Target Information
Voltage-dependent calcium channels mediate calcium ion entry into excitable cells and regulate processes such as muscle contraction, neurotransmitter release, and gene expression. These channels consist of multiple subunits, with the alpha-1 subunit forming the pore and determining channel type.
The CACNA1A gene encodes the alpha-1A subunit, primarily expressed in neuronal tissue. Mutations in CACNA1A are linked to familial hemiplegic migraine and episodic ataxia type 2. Polymorphic variations with expanded polyglutamine tracts are associated with spinocerebellar ataxia type 6.
Multiple transcript variants exist, differing in the 3′ UTR and coding regions.
For Research Use Only.
Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
