Target Information
ACTC1 belongs to the actin family, which plays a crucial role in cell motility. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) forms filamentous actin (F-actin) as a two-stranded helix. Each actin molecule binds to four others.
Alpha actins are predominant in muscle tissues and form the contractile apparatus.
Defects in ACTC1 are associated with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDC) and familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (FHC).
