Target Information
The SAR1B gene encodes a small GTPase that functions as a homodimer. It is activated by the guanine nucleotide exchange factor PREB and plays a role in protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus. The encoded protein is a component of the COPII coat complex. Mutations in this gene cause chylomicron retention disease (CMRD), also known as Anderson disease (ANDD). Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
