Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with soluble beta2-microglobulin, a 12 kDa Ig-like glycoprotein expressed on lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It does not cross-react with mouse, rabbit, canine, chicken, or bovine.
For Western blot, non-reducing conditions are preferred.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein, a subunit of MHC class I. It is expressed on many human cell types except erythrocytes and also found in free form in plasma.
Its amino acid sequence is homologous to immunoglobulin constant regions with a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure.
B2M is involved in antigen processing, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell activation.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2 microglobulin levels serve as a marker for renal function and HIV prognosis.
