Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is one of the eight subunits of the COP9 signalosome, a highly conserved protein complex functioning as an important regulator in multiple signaling pathways. Its structure and function are similar to the 19S regulatory particle of the 26S proteasome. COP9 signalosome interacts with SCF-type E3 ubiquitin ligases and acts as a positive regulator of these ligases. This protein belongs to the translation initiation factor 3 superfamily, is involved in cell cycle regulation, and may act as a cellular cofactor for the HIV-1 accessory gene product Vpr.
