Target Information
VE-cadherin is a member of the cadherin superfamily located in a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16. It is involved in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. VE-cadherin protein is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It functions as a classic cadherin, mediating homophilic cell adhesion, and plays an important role in endothelial cell biology by regulating intercellular junction cohesion and organization. An alternative splice variant has been described, but the full-length sequence has not been determined.
