OFD1 유전자는 X 염색체에 위치하며 중심체 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 유전자의 변이는 구강-안면-디지털 증후군 I형 및 Simpson-Golabi-Behmel 증후군 2형과 관련이 있습니다. 마우스 모델을 통해 돌연변이의 영향을 연구하였으며, 마우스 유전자는 X 염색체에 위치하지만 인간과 달리 X 불활성화의 영향을 받지 않습니다. 여러 가성유전자가 확인되었으며, 하나는 염색체 5에, 최대 15개는 Y 염색체에 존재합니다.
