RBMY1A1은 N-말단에 RNA 결합 모티프를, C-말단에 네 개의 SRGY(serine, arginine, glycine, tyrosine) 박스를 포함하는 단백질입니다. 이 단백질은 정자 형성 과정에서 스플라이싱 조절자로 작용하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 이 유전자의 여러 유사한 패럴로그가 Y 염색체의 AZFb azoospermia factor 영역의 유전자 클러스터 내에 존재하며, 대부분은 위유전자(pseudogene)이지만 일부는 기능적 단백질을 암호화할 가능성이 있습니다.
