Target Information
The NDUFS6 gene encodes a subunit of the NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This enzyme complex transfers electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The encoded subunit is one of seven iron-sulfur protein fraction components. Mutations in NDUFS6 cause mitochondrial complex I deficiency, leading to diverse clinical manifestations including neonatal disease and adult-onset neurodegenerative disorders.
