Target Information
Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta tubulin, each approximately 55 kDa in molecular weight. These heterodimers are the fundamental units of microtubules, which are essential cytoskeletal structures in eukaryotic cells. Microtubules provide structural support, facilitate intracellular transport, and play a crucial role in mitosis.
Gamma tubulin contributes to microtubule nucleation. Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved across species. The alpha tubulin gene shares strong similarity with the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene, and expression is predominantly found in morphologically differentiated neuronal cells.
