Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) compose a family of serine/threonine protein kinases present in all eukaryotes.
CKI family members (alpha, gamma, epsilon, delta) regulate cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically forms a tetrameric complex (α₂β₂ or αα'β₂) where the β subunit regulates and autophosphorylates the α catalytic subunit.
CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and phosphorylates over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and DNA metabolism enzymes.
