Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) compose a family of serine/threonine protein kinases present in all eukaryotes.
CKI family members (alpha, gamma, epsilon, delta) are involved in cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically forms a tetrameric complex (alpha2 beta2 or alpha alpha' beta2), where the alpha catalytic subunit is stimulated by the beta regulatory subunit, which undergoes autophosphorylation.
CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and is known to phosphorylate over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and DNA metabolism enzymes.
