Target Information
Lipogenesis is a key event in the energy storage system controlled by the transcription factor SREBP-1. ELOVL6 (Elongation of Very Long Chain Fatty Acids Protein 6) converts palmitic to stearic acid and is a target of SREBP-1, playing an important role in the de novo synthesis of long-chain saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. It contributes to tissue fatty acid composition. Recent studies suggest that inhibition of ELOVL6 could be a potential therapeutic approach for improving insulin resistance, diabetes, and cardiovascular risks.
