MA1-215 detects thyroid hormone receptor (TR) from human tissues.
This antibody recognizes TR beta-1 and cross-reacts with TR alpha-1.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, and gel shift assays.
By Western blot, MA1-215 detects 55 and 52 kDa proteins representing recombinant human TR beta-1 expressed in E. coli.
It immunoprecipitates 52 kDa and 55 kDa proteins (TR beta-1) and a 48 kDa protein (TR alpha-1).
The immunogen is a purified fragment of human TR beta-1 (amino acids 201–456).
This antibody recognizes an epitope in the hormone binding domain (residues 235–414), conserved in hTR alpha-1.
Target Information
The encoded protein is a nuclear hormone receptor for triiodothyronine (T3).
It mediates biological activities of thyroid hormone and shows functional redundancy among receptor types.
Knockout studies in mice indicate distinct physiological roles.
Mutations in this gene can cause generalized thyroid hormone resistance (GTHR), characterized by goiter and elevated T3/T4 with normal or slightly elevated TSH.
Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
