Sonic hedgehog (Shh) 신호전달의 매개체로서, 배아 발생 과정과 암 관련 기전에 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 세포질에 위치하며 patched Drosophila homolog (PTCH) 유전자 발현을 활성화합니다. 또한 Greig cephalopolysyndactyly syndrome, Pallister-Hall syndrome, preaxial polydactyly type IV, postaxial polydactyly types A1 및 B와 같은 여러 표현형과 관련되어 있습니다.
