Target Information
Members of the trefoil family are characterized by having at least one copy of the trefoil motif, a 40-amino acid domain containing three conserved disulfides. They are stable secretory proteins expressed in gastrointestinal mucosa. Their functions may include protecting the mucosa from insults, stabilizing the mucus layer, and aiding epithelial healing.
This gene is expressed in the gastric mucosa and has been studied for its expression in human tumors. It is clustered with two other related trefoil family member genes on chromosome 21.
