Histone H3 is one of the DNA-binding proteins found in the chromatin of all eukaryotic cells. Along with other core histone proteins, it binds to DNA forming the nucleosome structure.
Histones play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability.
The N-terminal tail of histone H3 can undergo multiple post-translational modifications such as methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation, influencing chromatin structure and gene expression.
