Target Information

Olfactory marker protein (OMP) is an abundant, 19-kDa cytosolic protein expressed almost exclusively in mature, functioning olfactory neurons, but not in neural precursor basal cells. The OMP gene and protein sequence are highly conserved among mouse, rat, and human. Its tissue-specific expression and knockout studies indicate that OMP is a modulatory component of the odor detection and signal transduction cascade. It may act as a modulator of olfactory signal transduction and interacts with BEX1 and BEX2. OMP is uniquely associated with mature olfactory receptor neurons and belongs to the olfactory marker protein family.
