Target Information
FABP7 was initially isolated from a human fetal brain cDNA library and its mRNA is expressed in adult brain and muscle tissues at low levels. The encoded protein belongs to the fatty acid binding protein (FABPs) family, which binds long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs are involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. FABP7 is regulated by the Pax6 transcription factor and plays a key role in maintaining neuroepithelial cells during early cortical development. It is frequently expressed in melanomas, and down-regulation via RNAi reduces cell proliferation and invasion, indicating potential diagnostic and therapeutic relevance.
