Target Information
RAB family members are small, RAS-related GTP-binding proteins that regulate vesicular transport. Each RAB protein interacts with multiple proteins involved in exocytic and endocytic pathways. The RAB7A protein regulates vesicle traffic between late endosomes and lysosomes and participates in cellular vacuolation induced by the VacA cytotoxin of Helicobacter pylori. Mutations in conserved residues of this gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) type 2 neuropathies.
