Target Information

GADD153 is a small nuclear protein that can dimerize with transcription factors C/EBP alpha and beta. Once dimerized, this complex inhibits normal C/EBP binding and function at classical sites. Conversely, the C/EBP–GADD153 dimer gains binding activity to non-classical, stress-related targets.
Under normal conditions, GADD153 expression is undetectable but is strongly upregulated during cellular or ER stress, such as treatment with tunicamycin, nutrient starvation, or reducing agents affecting calcium flux across the ER membrane.
