E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)은 칼슘 의존성 세포 간 접착 단백질로, cadherin 초과패밀리에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 5개의 세포외 cadherin 반복 부위, 막관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리로 구성되어 있습니다.
E-Cadherin 유전자(CDH1)의 변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등 다양한 암과 연관되어 있으며, 발현 감소 또는 소실은 암의 침윤 및 전이 가능성과 밀접한 상관관계를 보입니다.
이 단백질의 ectodomain은 박테리아의 숙주 세포 부착을 매개하며, 세포질 도메인은 내부화 과정에 필요합니다. 또한 E-Cadherin은 조직 구조 유지 및 세포 성장 조절에 핵심적인 역할을 합니다.
