ATP7B 유전자는 P-type cation transport ATPase 계열에 속하며, 여러 막관통 도메인, ATPase 공통 서열, hinge 도메인, 인산화 부위 및 2개 이상의 구리 결합 부위를 포함하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 단량체로 작용하여 세포 내 구리를 배출하며, 특히 간세포에서 담즙으로의 구리 배출에 관여합니다. 다양한 전사적 스플라이스 변이체가 보고되어 있으며, 각각 고유한 세포 내 위치를 가집니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 윌슨병(Wilson disease, WD)과 관련되어 있습니다.
