Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 신경교세포에 특이적으로 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포에서도 강하게 발현되며, GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 표지자로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP의 높은 발현이 관찰됩니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 쿠퍼세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 데 유용하며, GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 isoform이 생성됩니다.
