Target Information

Error-prone DNA polymerase specifically involved in DNA repair. Plays an important role in translesion synthesis when high-fidelity DNA polymerases stall. Favors Hoogsteen base-pairing in the active site and inserts the correct base opposite an adenosine template with high fidelity. Exhibits low fidelity opposite a thymidine template, preferentially inserting guanosine. May contribute to immunoglobulin gene hypermutation. Forms a Schiff base with 5′-deoxyribose phosphate at abasic sites but may lack lyase activity.
