This antiserum is directed against human epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and is useful in determining its presence in Western blotting and immunoprecipitation experiments.
This antibody can detect EGFR from human, mouse, and rat sources. Reactivity with EGFR from other species is unknown.
Target Information
EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that signals in response to various growth factors. Overexpression is linked to numerous cancers and EGFR is targeted by biological and small molecule therapeutics.
EGFR is encoded by the EGFR gene located on chromosome 7 in humans and belongs to the HER/ERbB family of proteins (ERbB2, ERbB3, ERbB4).
Binding of ligands such as EGF and TGF-α leads to EGFR dimerization and autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues in the cytoplasmic domain.
Overexpression is observed in tumors of the head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, vulva, ovary, esophagus, and squamous cell carcinoma.
