Target Information
The FBXW8 gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family, characterized by an approximately 40-amino-acid F-box motif. F-box proteins are subunits of the SCF (SKP1-cullin-F-box) ubiquitin ligase complex, which mediates phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. They are divided into three classes:
- Fbws: contain WD-40 domains
- Fbls: contain leucine-rich repeats
- Fbxs: contain other protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs
The FBXW8 protein includes both an F-box motif and a WD-40 domain, classifying it as an Fbw protein. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
