Target Information
The Lipin family of nuclear proteins includes Lipin-1, Lipin-2, and Lipin-3, which share a nuclear signal sequence, an amino-terminal (NLIP) domain, and a carboxy-terminal (CLIP) domain.
LPIN1 (Lipin-1) is essential for normal adipose tissue development and metabolism. It activates pathways related to fatty acid oxidation and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation through PPARA, while suppressing lipogenic programs and circulating lipid levels.
LPIN1 abundance is associated with fat accumulation and insulin sensitivity, whereas deficiency can lead to lipodystrophy, fatty liver, and insulin resistance.
