Product Specific Information

The MFL3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse Fas (CD95) Ligand, a 40 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein. FasL, a TNF family member, is expressed by activated mouse T cells. Interaction of FasL with its receptor CD95 induces Fas-mediated apoptosis. The human FasL antigen can be cleaved by MMPs to form a 26 kDa soluble form; the mouse antigen’s sensitivity to MMPs is not reported.

Target Information

CD178 (Fas Ligand, FasL) is a type II membrane protein with its N-terminus in the cytoplasm and C-terminus extracellular. It binds to FasR, a TNF/NGF receptor family member, inducing apoptosis upon receptor oligomerization. CD178 exists in membrane-bound (~45 kDa) and soluble (~26 kDa) forms, the latter generated by metalloproteinase cleavage.

FasL is predominantly expressed in activated T lymphocytes and NK cells, and in immune-privileged tissues such as testis and eye. Expression is also observed in thymus, liver, ovary, lung, heart, and kidney. The Fas/CD178 system is involved in immune regulation and cytotoxicity, and implicated in diseases including AIDS, hepatitis, cancer, and inflammatory disorders such as atherosclerosis.
