Target Information
PDGFRB (platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta) is a receptor tyrosine kinase implicated in atherogenesis and cell transformation by the SIS oncogene. These growth factors act as mitogens for cells of mesenchymal origin.
The receptor forms homodimers or heterodimers depending on the bound growth factor, composed of PDGF receptor alpha and beta polypeptides.
The PDGFRB gene is located on chromosome 5, flanked by genes for granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor, and may be involved in 5-q syndrome.
A translocation between chromosomes 5 and 12 fusing PDGFRB (CD140b) with the ETV6 leukemia gene results in chronic myeloproliferative disorder with eosinophilia.
