Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of MITF only when phosphorylated at Ser414.
Target Information
Mi (Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor) is a basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) transcription factor involved in pigmentation, mast cell function, and bone development. Mutations in Mi cause Waardenburg Syndrome type II in humans. In mice, loss of Mi leads to depigmentation, osteopetrosis, and defects in natural killer and mast cells.
There are two known isoforms of Mi differing by 66 amino acids at the N-terminus:
- Shorter forms (52–56 kDa) are expressed in melanocytes.
- Longer forms (60–70 kDa) are expressed in osteoclasts, B16 melanoma cells, mast cells, and heart tissue.
