Target Information

Peroxisome proliferators are non-genotoxic carcinogens acting through nuclear hormone receptors known as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs). These ligand-dependent intracellular proteins activate transcription by binding specific DNA sequences.
PPARs are activated by compounds such as clofibric acid, nafenopin, WY-14,643, and certain fatty acids. They can induce transcription of acyl-CoA oxidase and cytochrome P450 (CYP450) A6 via specific response elements.
PPARs form heterodimers with retinoid X receptor (RXR) alpha, similar to other nuclear hormone receptors.
