Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is localized in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi, and is also secreted. Reduction of expression increases susceptibility to ER stress-induced death and promotes cell proliferation. Initially thought to contain an arginine-rich region, later evidence indicates a smaller open reading frame without the arginine tract. Polymorphisms previously associated with tumors were later found in normal tissues, indicating they are not tumor-related.
