Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles responsible for catalyzing protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of four RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins. The encoded protein is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family of ribosomal proteins. It is a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases, with multiple C-terminal serine residues phosphorylated by different kinases. Phosphorylation is induced by growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein contributes to the control of cell growth and proliferation through selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
