이들 cytokeratin은 분자량 40–68 kDa, 등전점 pH 4.9–7.8 범위에 있으며, 인간 cytokeratin은 1–20번으로 번호가 매겨집니다.
상피 조직의 종류와 성숙도, 분화 정도에 따라 cytokeratin의 발현 패턴이 달라지며, 이는 다양한 상피성 악성종양의 감별 진단에 활용됩니다.
