Target Information

Autophagy related protein 16L (ATG16L1) is encoded by the ATG16L gene and located on chromosome 2 in humans. Also known as WD30 or IBD10 (Inflammatory Bowel Disease 10).
ATG12 and ATG5 conjugate and oligomerize with ATG16L1 to form an 800 kDa Atg16L complex, which facilitates LC3 lipidation to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)—a key marker for autophagy.
The ATG16L complex, along with ATG18 and ATG21, prevents premature cleavage of ATG8-PE by cysteine protease Atg4 until autophagosome completion.
