Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in cellular processes requiring RNA secondary structure changes, such as translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly.
Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cell growth/division.
The DDX17 gene encodes an ATPase activated by RNA species, closely related to DDX5.
Multiple isoforms may be produced via alternative splicing and translation initiation, including a non-AUG (CUG) start codon.
