Target Information

The platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family consists of four members: PDGF-A, PDGF-B, PDGF-C, and PDGF-D. These form disulphide-bonded dimeric isoforms critical for growth, survival, and function in connective tissue cells. PDGF signaling occurs through PDGFR-α and PDGFR-β receptors and is essential for organ development.

PDGF-D, structurally similar to PDGF-C, is secreted as a disulphide-linked homodimer (PDGF-DD). It induces cellular transformation, promotes tumor growth by increasing proliferation and angiogenesis, and may contribute to brain and prostate cancer development. PDGF-D expression is found in fibroblastic adventitial cells, endothelial cells, and various tumor cell lines (ovarian, renal, lung, astrocytoma, medulloblastoma). It is also expressed in the human kidney.
