Target Information
Actin is a ubiquitous protein involved in filament formation, constituting major portions of the cytoskeleton. Actin filaments interact with myosin to assist in muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis.
In vertebrates, there are three actin isoform groups: alpha, beta, and gamma.
- Alpha actins: Found in muscle tissues; major constituents of the contractile apparatus.
- Beta and gamma actins: Present in most cell types; components of the cytoskeleton and mediators of internal cell motility.
