Target Information
The family of insulin receptor substrates (IRSs) plays critical roles in signal transduction of various hormones. Four members of the IRS family have been described, each believed to have distinct functions, although their specific physiological roles remain unclear. IRS-1 may mediate the control of various cellular processes by insulin. When phosphorylated by the insulin receptor, it binds specifically to cellular proteins containing SH2 domains such as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase p85 subunit or GRB2.
