Programmed death receptor ligand 1 (PD-L1, also known as B7-H1) is a B7 family member that binds to the programmed death receptor 1 (PD-1), negatively regulating T-cell receptor (TCR) signaling.
Upon PD-L1–PD-1 interaction, TCR-mediated proliferation and cytokine production decrease. PD-L1 is abundantly expressed in many murine and human cancers and can be upregulated by IFN-gamma stimulation, playing an important role in tumor immune evasion.
