Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Placental Alkaline Phosphatase (PLAP) is involved in regulating inflammatory processes and is one of four related alkaline phosphatases (intestinal, placental, placental-like, liver/bone/kidney).
PLAP reacts with the membrane-bound Regan and Nagao isoenzymes found in the placenta during the third trimester.
It is useful in identifying testicular germ cell tumors and distinguishing PLAP-positive somatic cell tumors expressing epithelial membrane antigen (EMA).
Although proposed to play a role in matrix mineralization, mice lacking functional PLAP show normal skeletal development.
PLAP has been associated with hypophosphatasia, a disorder characterized by hypercalcemia and skeletal defects, with variability depending on mutation type and onset.
