Target Information

Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and signaling. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to link adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also associates with the adenomatous polyposis coli protein and participates in Wnt/Wingless signaling pathways. It regulates morphogenesis and is expressed in various epithelial and follicular cells. Abnormal beta-catenin activity has been implicated in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal, ovarian, and other solid tumors. In the nucleus, it co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc that drive cell proliferation.
