Target Information
Chemokines are a family of proteins involved in leukocyte trafficking during immune surveillance and inflammation. CX3CL1, a CX3C chemokine, mediates leukocyte adhesion and migration via its membrane-bound and soluble forms. Studies indicate CX3CL1 suppresses production of nitric oxide, interleukin-6, and TNF-α in activated microglia and neuronal cells, suggesting a neuroprotective role. Its receptor, CX3CR1, also serves as a co-receptor for HIV-1 and HIV-2, and this interaction can be inhibited by CX3CL1.
