Target Information
Ran is a small signaling GTPase involved in nucleocytoplasmic transport. It also plays roles in spindle aster formation and nuclear envelope reassembly during mitosis. Unlike Ras or Rho, Ran is not membrane-associated. Its signaling depends on the spatial distribution of accessory proteins such as RanGAP and RCC1, which regulate the RanGTP/RanGDP balance. Mammalian RanGAP binds to the nuclear pore via SUMO modification and interaction with nucleoporin Nup358.
